Maxim Integrated Products, Sunnyvale, CA, offers the MAX9921 dual 2-wire Hall sensor interface IC that supplies and monitors the current drawn by two Hall sensors, filters the sensed-current level, and outputs the corresponding logic level. The IC includes Hall-effect input diagnostics to detect when an input is open, shorted to the battery, or shorted to ground and, if detected, to shut off the current to the corresponding input. It can also shut off the current to the sensors when the battery is out of range. Applications include automotive window lifters, magnetic relays, automatic doors, seatbelt buckles, electric sunroofs, and powered lift-gate controllers.
