The POSICHRON PCST27 Series magnetostrictive position sensor from ASM Sensors Inc., Elmhurst, IL, provides precise positioning of hydraulic cylinders or fluid level measurements. The durable devices were designed to be integrated inside large hydraulic cylinders used in harsh environments, such as those used in the offshore or shipping industries. Measurement lengths are from 0–100 mm or from 0–5,750 mm; outputs of either 0.5–10 V or 4–20 mA, pulse (start/stop), or SSI; output linearity up to ±0.02% F.S. for absolute output; pressure resistance up to 15 bar; and a sea-water-resistant, SS, IP68-rated housing. The device is suited for applications that demand extreme precision, repeatability, and resistance against environmental factors.
