Designed for use in harsh motor sport environments, the TPS280DP from Penny+Giles Controls Ltd., Christchurch, U.K., is a throttle position sensor with dual outputs. The sensor incorporates a factory-programmable Hall effect sensor with 2 outputs (0.5–4.5 VDC or PWM) that can be programmed individually for angular range, output range, and direction. Available with 200 or 500 mm cable lengths, the device can operate from either a 5 VDC regulated or 9–30 VDC unregulated supply, has overvoltage protection to 40 VDC, has 12-bit resolution over the selected angular range, and can be supplied programmed with any one of 341 different angles in the range of 0°–20° to 0°–360° in 1° increments. Operating temperature range is –40°C to 140°C with stability <±30 ppm/°C.
