Wireline Ethernet has long been the standard data connectivity technology of the corporate enterprise, but wireline Ethernet ports and cable are now increasingly being idled by wireless LANs, according to a story in Network World. Research firm Gartner suggests that 70 percent of all net new ports will be wireless by 2011, and enterprise Ethernet cord-cutting was predicted by the Burton Group back in 2007.
